Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it was Don Kelley ('70) and Dale Donaldson who came up with the nickname "El Rey" for David.  Later there was some kind of incident with a large hunting knife, and the name "Bowie" was added.  To many of us, David was lovingly known as El Rey Bowie.
David was much of the glue which kept our BB team together.  He was always joking and keeping the mood light even before and during big games and tough practices. There are too many funny stories to tell here.
David also had a little known serious side . He completed his Mormon mission work and completed college in Utah after graduating from AHHS.
Perhaps David's greatest game was when he effectively shut down all-stater Eddie Owens from Houston Wheatley in an early season game. He was a very good player.  Perhaps others here can fill in details about his later life.  The last time I saw David was around 2010.  We had a nice time reminiscing that day.
David was a good friend and good man.   R.I.P El Rey.        JV.
