Ikey and I played Little League baseball on different teams. He was a lanky side-armed pitcher and I could never get a hit off of him. We sat at the same table at the '71 reunion and talked about life and faith. RIP Ikey.
Ikey and I played in the West Side Lions little league for one year. We were both left handed as I recall. When he pitched I got to play first base. He was a much better player than I was, as I recall. I was a pretty good fielder but not much of a hitter at that time. I remember he was a favorite of all the players and treated everyone equally well. I want to say that he moved on to Pony League the year we played for Driscoll Plumbing at West Side Lions. RIP Ikey, you were a great guy.
Although I didn't know him that well, I knew he was a great guy, popular and loved by many. I had these three photos from our 20th Reunion that I thought I would share. RIP Ikey.
Dwayne (Ikey) and I go WAY back to somewhat before High School. We first met in Sept, 1961,,, as we were both entering 3rd grade at Crestwood Elementary. A bunch of us from the neighborhood became a circle of "bike-riding/ball-playing" friends. I remember taking walks to the nearby Trinity river, baiting our fishing poles and throwing them in. Ikey was quite athletic. He was a fast runner and excelled in grammar school relays in the Spring. He was also a fantastic baseball pitcher. He played in the Little League Majors while I still played in the Texas League. Ike was also a very respected Boy Scout,, as we were all in the local BSA Troop 124. Then it was onto Jr High School and High School, then we kind of lost touch after I myself moved away from Texas in Spring 1982,,, first stop,, Santa Barbara, California. He was a great guy to have as a neighborhood buddy and he will surely be missed. May Ikey Rest in Peace.
For those that could not make the service yesterday, there is a Celebration of Life for Ikey at Scott Lundquist's place on SEPTEMBER 7 from 4:30-7:30. It is an outdoor venue with cooling, snacks & drinks, BYOB, BRING YOUR STORIES TO SHARE.
Rising Star Ranch, 16411 US-377N, Fort Worth, TX 76126
Again, a reminder that today is Ikey's Celebration of Life at Scott Lundquist's place, starting at 4:30pm. See details already posted. Hope to see you there.
Being that I live way off here in Hawaii (and on the furthest out island) I unfortunately could not make it to Ikey's Memorial Serivce,, OR his "Celebration of Life" event (at Scott Lundquists' place Saturday Sept 7th). However,, come our AHHS Class of 71 55th Yr Reunion (expected to take place in either Summer or Fall 2026), I certainly DO plan to make it back to Fort Worth for that event,, (nothing will stop me). Even though by then it will be a couple years late,, I DO plan to give a speech, to throw in some good words about Ikey and to share some very fond (early life) memories with Ikey. Lord Willing,, many of us will still be around come Summer 2026 (and time for our 55th)! Hey,, I look forward to that meet up!

Ikey got throat cancer about five years ago and he kicked it. But there were long term complications that he was never able to get past.
He did real well in life and was married to Jamalyne for half a century. They had two daughters.
At every pep rally Ikey and I would never go so Mr. Dyke would point to the door. How great was that.
Ikey was a good guy, I'm sorry to see him go.
